Absconded predatory sex offender, 79, arrested in Coos County

A 79-year-old predatory sex offender was arrested Monday morning in Powers, according to a press release from the Coos County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO).

CCSO learned a predatory sexual offender was living in the Powers area, and had absconded supervision in 2011.

After further investigation, deputies learned Robert Lee Joyner, 79, was living in a camp trailer parked on a property in the Powers area.

Robert Lee Joyner, 79, was arrested Oct. 30, 2017 in Powers, Ore. for absconding his supervision as a predatory sex offender. He has been wanted since 2011. Photo courtesy of the Coos County Sheriff’s Office.

The property includes a home where children reside, according to CCSO. Deputies say the property owners had no reason to have known about Joyner’s criminal background, or his status as a predatory sex offender. Joyner is listed in the Oregon Sex Offender Registry.

Joyner has an original conviction of first-degree sodomy and was placed on supervision in Clackamas County. He also was wanted on a traffic warrant from Junction City, and warrants for DUII and reckless driving from Crook County.

Joyner was arrested about 11 a.m., Oct. 30, and taken to Coos County Jail, where he will be lodged pending transfer to Clackamas County.
