Albany woman arrested on DUII and other charges after allegedly killing man, dog

An Albany woman was arrested Saturday on charges related to a DUII incident which occurred Mar. 3, 2017 near Philomath, according to a press release from the Benton County Sheriff’s Office.

Around 5:43 p.m., Mar. 3, 2017, authorities say Alexis Marie Weis, 30, of Albany, had been traveling south on Bellfountain Rd near Philomath when her green 1997 Honda Civic crossed the center lane, striking an oncoming white 1999 Honda Accord.

Both vehicles came to rest on the roadway and suffered significant damage.

Weis, the driver of the Accord, Frederick Riggs, 34, of Eugene; and Riggs’ two passengers, Cynthia Riggs, 52, of Eugene, and Dustin Ware, 35, of Waldport were all extricated from their vehicles after the accident.

All were taken to Good Samaritan Hospital.

Ware was pronounced deceased at the hospital, and a dog in the Accord died from injuries sustained in the crash.

Weis was arrested Mar. 25 following recovery from injuries she sustained in the accident. She is facing charges of second-degree manslaughter, second-degree assault, third-degree assault, first-degree animal abuse, DUII (alcohol and controlled substances), reckless driving and three counts of reckless endangering.
