Springfield, Ore. – On March 16, Springfield Police contacted James Thomas Tkacs, age 40, and Waquas Ali Bhatti, age 32, of Eugene, regarding a suspicious circumstances call. Early on in the investigation it came to light that one or both of the them may be involved in the Lil’s Deli armed robbery, which occurred March 15.
Since then Eugene Police detectives have been working in concert with Springfield Police detectives on the investigation. On March 20, James Tkacs was charged with the March 15 robbery of Lil’s Deli.
James Thomas Tkacs pled guilty to 13 counts, 6 of which were Robbery II charges and was sentenced to 15 years in prison. He was charged on three robbery incidents, two that took place at Lil’s Video Poker in Eugene, and a third robbery, which took place at Lucky Lou’s video poker in Springfield.
Waquas “Vic” Bhatti has also been charged with Robbery and is awaiting a resolution to the charge.
The investigation was a combined effort from the Eugene and Springfield police departments who worked in cooperation during the investigation.
