Former Oregon Duck Killed in Car Crash

Springfield, Ore. – At 2:31 this morning, June 15, police responded to a reported a single-vehicle roll-over crash at Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and Kinsrow Avenue, in which the vehicle, a 2014 Kia sedan crashed and rolled off the road into some heavy brush. The driver, Pedro Chavarin Jr., age 22, reported to police that he was alone and not carrying any passengers. He was transported to a local hospital and then after an investigation, he was cited in lieu of custody for DUII.

This morning at 6:51 a.m., a woman walking near the area spotted a hand and brush over a person down a gravel path. Police responded and have found a deceased person.

The deceased passenger is identified as Fotu Tuli Leiato, age 21. The driver of the vehicle is Pedro Chavarin Jr., age 22.

Eugene Police Major Collision Investigation Team is on scene conducting an investigation.
