A 32-year-old Keizer man was arrested Tuesday on numerous drug and weapons offenses, according to a press release from Keizer Police Department (KPD).

On June 27 at about noon, KPD initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle near the 300 block of Sunset Ave. N., and arrested Clayton Lee Smith, 32, of Keizer, on probable cause related to drug offenses. He was taken into custody without incident.

Clayton Lee Smith, 32, of Keizer, was arrested June 27, 2017 on numerous drugs and firearms charges after Keizer Police served warrants on his residence and vehicle. Photo provided by Keizer Police Department.

As Smith was being detained, he locked the vehicle he was driving, a 2002 blue BMW 525i.

Investigators looked inside the locked vehicle and noticed a small plastic bindle, cash, a used syringe and a .45 caliber bullet in clear view inside the vehicle.

The BMW was impounded, due to investigators’ suspicion it may contain additional items consistent with criminal activity.

Investigators obtained a search warrant for the vehicle Wednesday and served it, finding $5,400 in cash, over four ounces of heroin, 76 grams of methamphetamine, packaging materials and a .45 caliber handgun.

At about the same time Smith was being arrested, other KPD officers were executing a search warrant at Smith’s residence in the 3900 block of 5th Ave. N. in Keizer.

A search of Smith’s residence led to the discovery of four long guns, two of which had been reported stolen to the Corvallis Police Department. Additionally, investigators found body armor, packaging materials, cash, 80 counterfeit $100 bills, nearly 7 grams of cocaine, three grams of methamphetamine and about a gram of heroin.

As Smith is a felon with a previous conviction for a violent crime, he is not permitted to possess body armor.

Smith was arrested previously at his 5th Ave. N. residence during a previous search warrant on numerous drug-related charges.

Smith is currently lodged in Marion County Jail on four counts of felon in possession of a firearm, and one charge each of felon in possession of body armor, first-degree theft, possession of methamphetamine, delivery of methamphetamine, possession of cocaine, delivery of cocaine, possession of heroin and delivery of heroin.

KPD asks anyone with additional information related to this investigation to contact Officer Darsy Olafson at olafsond@keizer.org and reference incident number 17-2378.
