Missing Florida Man Found Alive

IDLEYLD PARK, Ore. – A missing 31 year-old Lake City, Florida man has been found alive by Douglas County Search and Rescue and an Oregon State Police Sergeant.

Matthew Kyle Chapin was located shortly after 2:00 pm Sunday afternoon on a dirt road near the Clearwater Falls day use area, approximately 69 miles, east of Roseburg.

Chapin was suffering from a medical emergency and was transported by REACH 8 Air Ambulance to Riverbend Hospital in Springfield. The motorcylce was not crashed.

Deputies from the Sheriff’s Office as well as volunteers from Douglas County Search and Rescue have been assisting the Oregon State Police since Friday to locate Chapin.

Other assisting agencies included the Salem Police Department, Bay Cities Ambulance and Chemult Fire Department.

The Oregon State Police (OSP) is requesting the public’s assistance in locating an overdue motorcyclist/missing person.

On June 1, 2018, OSP Troopers became aware of an overdue motorcyclist/missing person from authorities in Florida. OSP Troopers learned that since mid-April 2018, Matthew Kyle CHAPIN, age 31, from Lake City, Florida, had been touring on his black and green 2016 Kawasaki dual sport motorcycle. The motorcycle has a Florida License plate of MCPB29. CHAPIN is a white male adult and is described as 6’0” tall, about 170lbs with brown hair. CHAPIN is reported to be wearing a black helmet, black jacket and blue jeans.

CHAPIN’S last contact with friends and family was May 27th, 2018 and his last known location was near Toketee Falls on State Highway 138E in Douglas County, Oregon on May 28th, 2018 at about 430 PM.

CHAPIN’S stated itinerary was to travel from the area of Crater Lake and meet with family in Portland on June 2nd, 2018.

OSP Troopers along with assistance from the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office Search and Rescue are actively searching the area around Toketee Falls for CHAPIN.
