One person is in custody, and an Oregon State Police (OSP) Trooper was taken to a hospital after he was shot by the suspect during a traffic stop south of Creswell Tuesday afternoon, according to a release from OSP.

At about 1:20 p.m., an OSP trooper initiated contact with the occupant of a stolen vehicle on Highway 99 near the intersection with England Rd., south of Creswell.

The suspect, identified as Edward Paul Dungan, 30, after a brief a brief encounter with the trooper, allegedly shot the trooper and hit him. The trooper was taken to an area hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The trooper was able to return fire, but it is not believed Dungan was struck. Several law enforcement agencies responded to the area to search for Dungan.

Dungan was arrested and transported to Lane County Jail, where he faces charges of unauthorized use of a vehicle, felony attempt to commit crime and felony unlawful use of a weapon. It is not believed there is any further threat to the community.
