Newport Police arrest man after stabbing incident

A 28-year-old man is in jail after allegedly stabbing a man Sunday afternoon, according to a release from the Newport Police Department.

At about 4 p.m., Aug. 13, police were called to the area of Hwy. 101 and 3rd St. to a report of a man who had been stabbed.

Police investigated the incident, and say the suspect, David Jensen, 28, had walked up to the victim and was violently plunging a sharp weapon into the victim’s upper body.

Jensen fled the area and foot, and was followed at a safe distance by witnesses, until police and deputies from Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office located Jensen and arrested him.

The victim was taken to a Corvallis hospital, and is reported to be in stable condition.

Jensen is lodged in Lincoln County Jail on charges of attempt to commit crime and first-degree assault.
