Salem, Ore. – Today at 3:56 p.m., the Marion County Sheriff’s Office was called to a plane crash in the 6700 block of Lardon Road NE near Salem. When deputies arrived they found a crashed fixed wing aircraft near a private runway. Sadly, the occupant and presumed pilot was killed in the crash.
Deputies are working with the Federal Aviation Administration to determine what events led up to today’s crash. It is anticipated investigators will be on scene and working over the next several hours.
Today’s deadly plane crash will be investigated by the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB). An investigator with the NTSB will arrive tomorrow morning from Alaska and the investigation will continue. The Sheriff’s Office intends to release the pilots name tomorrow morning any additional statements pertaining to the crash will be made by the NTSB and their investigators. The Sheriff’s Office does not anticipate any additional releases this evening.
