Roseburg transient arrested after allegedly stealing 30 cartons of Camel 99’s from delivery truck

A 63-year-old man was arrested Wednesday after allegedly stealing 30 cartons of cigarettes from a delivery truck, according to a release from Roseburg Police.

At about 9:40 a.m. on July 26, police say Joseph Franklin Wright, 63, a transient, had gotten into the back of a semi at Texaco, located at 334 W. Harvard, and had taken 30 cartons of Camel 99’s, which were valued at a little over $1,772.

Wright allegedly had gone across the street and attempted to hide the smokes in some bushes, but was caught by an officer driving in the area.

Wright was arrested and taken to Douglas County Jail on charges of unlawful entry into a motor vehicle, and first- and second-degree theft. Wright was also cited in connection to a previous case during which he was accused of stealing a drill from a cabinet shop.
