Police are seeking the public’s help locating a woman accused of injuring an officer early Saturday morning, according to a release from the Springfield Police Department.

At about 1:05 a.m., Aug. 5, an officer was in the area of the 1000 block of Q St. looking for a suspect vehicle when he initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle driven by Misty Bayer, 36.

During the officer’s interaction with Bayer, it was determined she was driving under the influence of intoxicahts, and had provided the officer with false information.

As the officer was trying to place Bayer under arrest, police say she locked the doors to the vehicle and tried to start it. The officer had broken the side window to the vehicle in an attempt to arrest Bayer, but she started the vehicle and left the location, injuring the officer in the process.

The officer was treated at a local emergency room and released.

Police found the vehicle driven by Bayer a short time later at a nearby apartment complex, and learned she had fled to a nearby apartment, cut her hair with a kitchen knife and changed clothes in a likely attempt to alter her appearance.

Bayer is facing charges of providing false information to police, eluding police by vehicle, reckless driving, reckless endangering, assault on a public safety officer, second-degree escape and interfering with police.
