Team Police Effort Yields Arrests in Cottage Grove Carjacking Incident

On August 8, Cottage Grove Police Department responded to an early morning carjacking. The suspects were reported to have stolen the victim’s vehicle at gunpoint before driving him out of town and taking his debit card and then withdrawing cash. Cottage Grove began working the case and reached out to alert other law enforcement agencies, including Eugene Police.

The next day, at 1 a.m., on August 9, an EPD lieutenant spotted the stolen vehicle on Almaden, between 6th and 7th Avenues. EPD patrol units responded and Cottage Grove Police was called and responded, along with EPD detectives.

Detectives were able to determine the location of the suspects; the Nite Inn on 1522 W. 6th. Concerns about the nature of the involved crimes coupled with the possibility of the suspects possessing weapons prompted a response with a Crisis Negotiation Team. Officers hailed the suspects out of the room and all three were taken into custody without incident.

The Cottage Grove Police Department is continuing to investigate.
